SCULPTURE
All of Sewell's large metal sculptures utilize discarded material from Maui's sugar mills. Well known for finding art in unexpected places, he celebrates the art of industry.

A dear friend received an invitation to a jazz-infused party admist Tom's "Sculpture Garden." Upon first witnessing photos of the metal ensemble, she wrote:
"O.M.G.!
I cannot believe how magnificent these works are!
Astonishing in scale, but most importantly, astonishing in individual spiritual energy!
It's as if they are sentient beings, finally allowed their freedom to respire in peace.
They are indeed proud figures from another era, still alive, still viable. A veritable museum of emotion.
If I bring a white saxophone, do you think Tom will allow me to sit in on at least one set???
OH! to stand beside and within just one of them! They inspire me with pyramidal energy.
For the past twenty years I've been trying in vain to recall the name of a philosopher/botanist who gave a presentation I happened to catch. He spoke of one of the greatest experiences he had ever had, that of wrapping his arms around the trunk of a Cedar of Lebanon, breathing in its essence as it spoke to him...and, he said, it was indeed a spiritual moment.
I've attached some photos of the Cedar of Lebanon, because they remind me so much of Tom's work.
Hoping the reception is amazing, as it is sure to be.
